Gangplans Love the use of samples. James & Evander is involved in this project so it's no surprise why it's rad.

After a much needed break so as to gather up some more tunes for the months to come, we are officially relaunching the Mapzzz EP Series for 2012 with a special EP from the newly-formed Hoodcats. Comprised of shortcircles (who drops his Plug Research debut next Tuesday) and future-poppin' duo James & Evander, the Oakland trio have put together three songs of sample-based future-music that owe as much to stoney instrumental hip-hop as they do to bass-minded footwork and house. All now living under one roof in the outskirts of West Oakland, the producers' current environment (which is highlighted by the never-ceasing presence of street felines, a.k.a. hood cats) is certainly reflected here, but there's also a touch of playfulness to be heard with generous samples of Mark Morrison's "Return of the Mac" and even Christina Aguilera's "Genie In a Bottle" appearing amongst the glistening synths and frantic drum programming. -via
