It was only a few months ago that we got hip to the work of a young beatsmith from New York by the name of InfinitiRock, whose Songs for Primordial Recollection LP blew us away with the many flavors of dense head-nodders it had to offer. Well, a little research followed and we came across a whole collective of like-minded dusty beat makers known as Guns of Kingston and headed by InfRock and partner-in-crime Bean. We’ve tapped a handful of GOK members from their talented roster (which totes names like Starchild, Cayman, and Lapalux among others) to deliver four tracks of syrupy boom-bap for the 11th effort in our ongoing EP series. From the first song, a collaboration between InfRock and kindred spirit Knxwledge, it should be pretty clear what you’re in for: expertly-crafted, bass-heavy excursions into the vast world of beats. Followed by another InfRock collab, this time with fellow GOK-head Bean together known as Slowlight, the second track finds the two slowing things down a bit in order to weave some ghostly vocals and bubbling arps into “Wish I Went to School.” A hazey, rumbling outing from Cayman and one last solo effort from Inf himself close out Mapzzz EP11 on a little more introspective tip than it began. Now we know, Mapzzz EPs are usually three song endeavors, but how could you keep this much talent to just three tracks? You can’t. And furthermore, those who download Mapzzz EP11 – Guns of Kingston may or may not be treated to a hidden bonus track from resident GOK MC Aviator. Most likely you will, but you’ll have to d/l to find out! -via mapzzz.com
