Here we are, another two weeks have come and gone, and as promised we’ve got another EP to add to our ongoing series. The eighth effort comes from Oakland duo James and Evander, the long-standing collaboration between former EP contributor Empty Pockets and head Mapzzz-maker Glenn Jackson. Fresh from releasing a new EP of their usual future-poppin’ fair, the two have switched gears a bit and provided us with three heavenly slices of glittering ambiance for their contribution. Made with the intention of aiding the listener in drifting off to a brief, peaceful sleep, the EP is comprised of three ambient melodic outings marked by lush, slow-moving chords and carelessly wistful bells and pianos. Deeply inspired by M83′s seminal Digital Shades Vol.1 album, the songs found on Mapzzz EP08 – James and Evander are vast in their space, careful to not overwhelm the listener but rather find a balance between providing a place of tranquility for one’s mind while not overloading it with too much aural stimuli. The synths are warm, the melodies are distant, and the results are truly blissful. Clocking in just under 15 minutes, this might be more of a nap-enhancing EP than an all out sleep fest, but the intentions are still intact and we’re pleased to be the platform through which this duo tries something new. -via mapzzz.com
