We are excited to have another debut release in our ongoing series of free, bi-weekly EPs, this time presenting the music of Oakland-based producer/engineer Adam Myatt (a.k.a. Empty Pockets). Myatt takes a step away from his usual gig as 1/2 of the future-poppin’ James & Evander duo to craft three lush, blissful pieces of melancholy electronica. Perhaps tapping into the rapidly changing, completely opposite weather we’ve experienced as of late around the Bay, Empty Pockets manages to simultaneously incorporate tones of both the sun-kissed and the rain-soaked. Glorious pads and arpeggios meld together with Myatt’s murky vocals, all moving steadily along with the slow marching of the Casio-esque drums. The three songs of Mapzzz Ep03 – Empty Pockets definitely exist somewhere in Myatt’s self-proclaimed “weedwave” genre, but there is something more personal to his music than just a stonier take on chillwave. Instead, the lure of Myatt’s simple, calm lyrics and their effortless delivery is impossible to escape, bringing you deeper and deeper into his hazy mindset. -via mapzzz.com
