The time has come for the second effort in Mapzzz’s ongoing series of free, bi-weekly EPs and we are extremely excited to debut the music of Liquorice Ginsberg–a new collaboration between Oakland beatsmiths Elephant & Castle and Bazooka Joint. The two producers combine their expertise to craft lush instrumentals full of murky ambiances, distant melodies, and mind-warping abstractions. Their beats sizzle and pop at a stoney pace, exploring sounds of the interstellar beyond as well as their more immediate urban surroundings through hazy filters that blur the sonic details as much as they slow down time. The three tracks found on this EP have a distinct swing, not satisfied to simply follow the usual rigid grid of computer-based music, the duo instead employs a groove that is at times loose, at times jittery, but always funky. Heads will nod, trees will be smoked, and Liquorice Ginsberg will fill the spaces in between. -via mapzzz.com
